Getting there
Castles, mountains, and the prevention of absolute chaos.
Sinaia sits 800 metres above the sea, two hours north of Bucharest. The mountains behave themselves in October, mostly.
Before you set off
- 01
💳 Currency, Romania uses the Romanian Leu (RON), not the Euro. Cards work in hotels, restaurants, taxis, shops, and attractions. A little cash is useful for markets, tips, and smaller vendors.
- 02
📱 Useful apps, Uber and Bolt are the easiest, safest ways around the cities. Google Maps works extremely well throughout Romania.
- 03
💶 Payments, Visa and Mastercard are accepted almost everywhere; contactless is the norm.
- 04
🚰 Water, Tap water is safe to drink throughout most of Romania, including Bucharest, Sinaia, and Brașov. Bottled mineral water is widely available.
- 05
🔌 Electricity, Romania uses the standard European plug (Type C & F, 230V). Guests from the UK, UAE, USA, or Canada will need an adapter.
- 06
☎️ Emergency, The national emergency number is 112.
- 07
🏔️ Mountain weather, October can be wonderfully unpredictable. Expect crisp mornings, warm afternoons, and chilly evenings. Layers are your best friend.
- 08
💬 Language, Romanian is the official language, but English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants, attractions, and by younger generations.
- 09
🐻 A note on bears, Yes, there are bears in the Carpathian Mountains. No, they should not be approached, fed, photographed from close range, invited to the wedding, or offered leftovers from the after-party.
- 10
🍷 Local customs, Romanians are generous hosts. If someone offers you a glass of țuică, homemade wine, or 'just one more' piece of cake, understand that declining may require considerable determination.
- 11
Accommodation at Hotel Palace Sinaia is arranged directly with the hotel. Please write to office@palacesinaia.ro with the subject line "Dinkers Wedding", noting how many rooms, how many guests, and anything else you may need.
